Help us to refresh our research strategy
We are currently refreshing our research strategy for the new membership year and we would like you to tell us what key priority areas you would like us to focus on in 2021-22. This might be key research questions you would like us to explore in the 'All CORC' dataset, or you might like to suggest we look at something in collaboration. We are keen to hear your ideas for what you would like us to focus on next.
Our current research strategy is organised into key research areas which follow children and young people through their treatment pathways, consisting of questions related to prevalence, case characteristics and outcomes, and the exploration of the measures used. Our most recent activity has focused on the following:
Our Response to Black Lives Matter
- how can we better understand how bias in measurement might be impacting on the knowledge that underpins the way we design, deliver and use services? (see this blog)
- understanding the views of young people from minoritised ethnic groups on current outcome measurement tools
Treatment Pathways
- exploring meaningful change and the types of goals progressed by young people in online counselling (Jacob et al., 2021; Collaboration with Kooth)
- who are the children and young people who attend services for a single session? (Edbrooke-Childs et al., 2021)
- are children and young people with better outcomes more likely to mutually agree to end treatment? (Edbrooke-Childs et al., 2021)
- a comparison of outcomes from different types of measures (Krause et al., 2021)
- how useful are standardised measures for the online assessment of difficulties? (Mindel et al., 2021; Collaboration with Kooth) (see this blog)
- what motivates young people to complete outcome measures online? (Mindel et al., 2021; Collaboration with Kooth) (see this blog)
Learning from Wellbeing Measurement for Schools
- does completing the wellbeing survey change how happy or sad pupils are feelings and what factors are associated with this? (see this report)
- what determines the feasibility of using the wellbeing survey in schools to monitor and support positive wellbeing in their pupils? (see this report)

Current areas identified for development in 2021-22 include:
- Outcomes for young people from the 'All CORC' datasets
- Continued involvement in young people in research activities and outputs
- Continued focus on inequalities in measurement and outcomes (e.g., ethnic differences in case closure reasons and outcomes)
- Further collaboration with members, specifically to explore our key research questions within varied settings, for example, an increased focus on the voluntary sector and social work areas
- Factors associated with service use (e.g., associations with number of sessions attended and difficulties and outcomes)
- Exploration of the Community Forensic CAMHS and SECURE STAIRS evaluations data sets (e.g., parent empowerment and support; and therapeutic relationships in secure settings)
- Prioritisation of a range of creative research outputs which increase the accessibility of research.
